SmugMug > popular all-time > 2.3.08 - Golden Years. Some photos are moments of inspiration, pieces of technical brilliance or snatched opportunities. This one had been meticulously planned for sometime. I have been working out the best vantage points and sunset times eversince I moved to my current home last summer. Mid-afternoon today it was very grey and trying to rain, then suddenly it all blew through and the air cleared. Sensing a nice sunset I grabbed my gear and walked a few minutes to a local hill crest and waited as this golden lightshow developed. It took much longer to select the DP than I spent taking photos, and I will upload other contenders to my Lincoln Sunset Gallery later this evening (see here http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#260994902 ). I hope you like this shot as much as I do, and I am so glad that I live so close to this view!

SmugMug > popular all-time > ancient roots 1000+ year old sitka spruce and DOD quinault, wa in memoriam rollin cooke walton, Dear Old Dad, gone to be with the Lord he loved 08/06/08 DOD always tried to encourage and help everyone. his love and compassion were a blessing to people beyond count. he was always ready with a helping hand and encouraging word. he had his faults, as do we all, but always took responsibility for his actions and tried to make amends if he had wronged. beloved by many, he will be sorely missed. DOD passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends who sang him some favorite hymns as he slipped from the bonds of this earth. gone but never forgotten r.i.p. DOD this picture was shot at the end of september 2007 on the last, of many, trips that DOD and i took together. it is one of my faves of him. there have been many great men throughout history but i can think of no one i'd be prouder to call father. enlarge for best viewing and please click a thumbs up; i'd like this to be number one of the most popular pics of mine as a small tribute to a fine man

SmugMug > popular all-time > POLAR BEAR IN MORNING SUN AND FOG. This curious polar bear showed up one morning near Dymond Lake Lodge where I was staying at not far from Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. The combination of early sun and frost in the air took my breath away.
